New Delhi, 16th August. In a chilling sequence of events, the Kolkata Police have come under scrutiny for allegedly silencing a young doctor who was outspoken about the brutal rape and murder of a fellow doctor at RG Kar Hospital. On the morning of August 16, 2024, the doctor, known by her X handle @epicnephrin_e, shared a disturbing account of how police officers visited her home, pressured her to delete tweets related to the case, and instructed her to appear at the police station the following day.
The doctor, who had been actively raising awareness about the horrifying incident, quickly became a target for speaking out. The visit by the Kolkata Police has sparked outrage among netizens, many of whom fear that this is an attempt to quash any dissenting voices that seek to expose deeper issues surrounding the case.
The Case: A Conspiracy Unveiled?
The murder of the RG Kar Hospital doctor has ignited widespread speculation about a possible drug, sex, and organ trafficking nexus operating within the hospital. Disturbing videos and audio clips circulating on the internet suggest that this young doctor, who was allegedly raped and murdered, may have been targeted for trying to expose this racket. Her brutal killing has raised serious questions about the hospital’s operations and whether powerful entities are involved in covering up the crime.
A Growing Pattern of Suppression
The young doctor’s experience is not an isolated incident. Reports indicate that other netizens who have spoken out against the RG Kar Hospital case have also received notices from the police. This growing pattern of intimidation raises concerns about freedom of speech and the right to seek justice without fear of retribution.
The actions of the Kolkata Police have been widely condemned as an abuse of power, with many accusing the authorities of attempting to control the narrative around the case rather than focusing on delivering justice. The public’s faith in law enforcement is being shaken, as the very institution that should be protecting citizens is now perceived as a tool for silencing them.

She claimed that at around 7:30 p.m. on August 15th, the Kolkata Police began asking for her location in her neighborhood. The neighbors contacted the young doctor’s mother, informing her that 3-4 uniformed police officers were seeking for her and that they needed to summon her for her posts on X.
She added, “They ultimately arrived at my home, and my brother and sister-in-law were present. My brother called and placed me on speakerphone. ‘Did you post about a student from Burdwan University?’ ‘Yes, I did.’ “Did you verify the credibility of the post?”
‘I saw media news about it, but I completely believed an angle I saw circulating in people’s statuses (that it was tied to the ‘Claim the Night’ protest). Following verification, I amended it under the post.’ ‘Please erase the message, do not post any further information without verification, and report to the Town Thana tomorrow.'”

In her X post, the young doctor stated that her brother folded his hands and pleaded with the authorities, telling them how deeply affected she had been by the brutal rape and death of a colleague doctor. Her mother, she recalls, was crying uncontrollably.

Following the threats, she issued a Tweet apologizing for her posts just hours before Kolkata police arrived at her house. Several others responded to her tweet, expressing their concern that the doctor was being threatened and intimidated by TMC supporters and Kolkata police.

Shefali Vaidya, an author and critic, went to X to write about a notice she received from the Kolkata Police.
“So I got this threatening letter from @KolkataPolice for merely asking a few questions and for exercising my right of free speech. This is a clear case of @MamataOfficial administration silencing the voice of private citizens using the power of Kolkata Police. I am just a private citizen who is so disgusted by what happened to #Moumita_Debnath that I decided to speak up. But apparently, @KolkataPolice does NOT like independent voices that speak up. As a woman and as a mother, I fear for my safety. We all know what Kolkata Police can do, and we all know what happens to women who dare to speak against @MamataOfficial in West Bengal”, Shefali wrote.

A mob attacked the RG Kar Hospital
The horrible murder and rape of a young doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital has caused widespread indignation across the country. Thousands of physicians have gathered to the streets, demanding justice for the doctor who was subjected to horrendous cruelty on hospital grounds. As thousands of people marched through Kolkata on August 14th, demanding justice, a mob attacked the RG Kar Hospitals, with police standing by as dumb bystanders and some hiding in the bathrooms. They informed the doctors that they were responsible for their own protection. Following the mob violence at RG Kar, which many suspected was intended to erase evidence, Mamata Banerjee blamed it on the Left and ‘Ram’.
Commissioner of Kolkata Police blamed ‘social media’
Previously, the Commissioner of Kolkata Police blamed’social media’ for people losing faith in them, claiming that they had done everything possible to ensure the RG Kar victim received justice.
Since blaming the Left, BJP, and social media did not deter people from questioning the TMC government, Mamata Banerjee, and the police, Kolkata police began threatening those who reported on the matter with legal consequences.

In a desperate attempt to protect the TMC administration and themselves, Kolkata Police took to Twitter to react to four questions posed by a netizen concerning their investigation and conduct in the matter.

Interestingly, while they answered questions 1 and 2, they refused to answer questions 3 and 4, explaining why Sandip Ghosh was reinstated by the state and why the Kolkata Police allowed renovation work to begin at the RG Kar Hospital while the rape and murder case was still being investigated.
It is worth noting that Dr. Sandip Ghosh resigned from his position as principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the wake of widespread protests over the rape and murder. However, he was promptly named principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) on the same day. The Calcutta High Court strongly opposed to this and ordered him to retire and take leave. Notably, it is claimed that Dr. Sandip Ghosh has close ties to the TMC.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the unfolding crisis surrounding the RG Kar Hospital case has intensified public scrutiny and outrage, revealing multiple layers of complexity and suspicion. The initial shock over the alleged assault and murder of a trainee doctor has evolved into a broader controversy involving potential organized crime and systemic corruption within the medical community. The allegations suggest a deeply troubling scenario, where the incident may have been manipulated or fabricated to obscure the truth.
The victim, Sanjay Roy, is increasingly seen as a pawn in a larger, more intricate scheme, raising concerns that his tragic death is being used to deflect attention from more significant issues. This perception is exacerbated by accusations that the Mamata Government and local administration might be engaging in efforts to whitewash the scandal, potentially protecting influential figures or institutions involved.
The recent attack by a large mob on the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, occurring in the early hours of August 14th-15th, has added a disturbing dimension to an already volatile situation. This assault, involving approximately 50 men, targeted the hospital infrastructure and was directed at protesting doctors who were demanding justice for the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor.
The mob’s actions—vandalizing hospital property, damaging police vehicles, and physically assaulting doctors—raise significant concerns about attempts to intimidate and manipulate the crime scene. The timing of this attack, following public protests aimed at reclaiming safe public spaces for women, suggests a coordinated effort to derail the quest for justice and disrupt ongoing investigations.
Social media and public discourse have become arenas for fierce debates, with citizens and activists calling for transparency and accountability. They demand an independent and thorough investigation, free from political bias, to address not only the immediate case but also the broader implications of organized crime and corruption.
In this fraught atmosphere, the role of law enforcement and investigative agencies becomes even more critical. The CBI is expected to conduct an impartial probe, unearthing the truth behind the allegations and holding accountable those responsible. The entire nation’s confidence in the investigative process hinges on the CBI’s ability to navigate these complexities without succumbing to political pressures or interference. It is imperative that the investigation reveals the full extent of the wrongdoing and restores public trust in the institutions meant to uphold justice.
