Mumbai, 2nd July: The unexpected death of actress and model Shefali Jariwala has taken a sharp turn in the investigation, as Mumbai police probe possible links between her anti-ageing treatments and a Vitamin C IV drip administered just hours before she suffered a cardiac arrest.
The 42-year-old, best known for her breakout appearance in the 2002 hit music video Kaanta Laga, collapsed at her Andheri residence on June 27. She was rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital by her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, but was declared dead on arrival.
In a statement to the media, Shefali’s close friend and fellow actor Pooja Ghai revealed that Shefali had undergone an intravenous Vitamin C drip earlier that day—a routine post-COVID wellness procedure now being scrutinised by authorities. Ghai confirmed that the individual who administered the drip has been summoned for questioning to verify the exact medications used.
Anti-Ageing Regimen Under the Scanner
Investigators are also examining Jariwala’s decade-long history of anti-ageing treatments, which reportedly included regular glutathione infusions and other cosmetic injectables. According to reports, Shefali had fasted for a religious ceremony on the day of her death, but still proceeded with her scheduled injection, raising concerns about the possible impact of medication on an empty stomach.
Pooja Ghai recounted that Shefali seemed normal after dinner and had even asked her husband to walk their dog. Moments later, a call from their domestic help alerted Parag that something was wrong. Rushing back, he found Shefali unconscious but with a faint pulse. Despite being immediately taken to the hospital, doctors were unable to revive her.
Postmortem Report Awaited
While cardiac arrest remains the suspected cause of death, confirmation awaits the final postmortem report. Investigators are analysing the IV contents, the long-term medications Shefali was on, and whether they could have triggered an adverse reaction, especially in a fasting state.
Police have already recorded statements from medical staff and individuals involved in her treatments, and are expected to pursue toxicology and forensic reports before drawing conclusions.
Final Goodbye
Shefali’s cremation was held at Oshiwara Hindu Crematorium on June 28, where family, friends, and members of the entertainment industry paid their final respects. Many from the television and film fraternity took to social media to express their grief and shock over her untimely demise.
Shefali Jariwala first rose to fame with the viral success of Kaanta Laga, becoming a household name overnight. She later appeared in Bollywood films such as Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and was a contestant in popular reality shows like Bigg Boss 13 and Nach Baliye 5.
