New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of ignoring the plight of Hindus affected by recent violence in Murshidabad while allegedly appeasing minority leaders.
In a strongly worded statement, Bansal said, “She meets the Ulemas of the rioters but cannot hear the cries of the suffering Hindus.” He questioned Banerjee’s silence on the attacks against Hindus and claimed she is turning a blind eye to the plight of women, children, and innocent citizens forced to live in refugee camps following the unrest.
The VHP spokesperson accused the Chief Minister of practicing vote-bank politics, alleging that her meetings with Imams and Ulemas were part of a deliberate appeasement strategy. Bansal further demanded that Banerjee clarify her position on the ongoing violence:
- Is she only the “Didi” of Jihadis?
- Does her concern extend only to Muslim clerics?
- Are the Imams being consulted to plan further communal unrest?
- Is there a new strategy to incite Jihadi outfits against national laws?
Calling the situation “extremely shameful,” Bansal said that Hindu families are being displaced while rioters are being protected. He warned that Bengal is now alert and watching closely, stating, “The more she runs away from her responsibility to restore peace and rule of law, the faster power will slip from her hands.”
He also called upon Mamata Banerjee to confront extremist elements and send a strong message that West Bengal would not be allowed to become “Jihadistan” or “another Bangladesh.”
The VHP’s remarks come amid heightened communal tensions in Murshidabad and neighboring areas, where several reports of violence and displacement have emerged in recent days. The West Bengal government has yet to respond to the allegations made by the VHP.
