Thiruvananthapuram, 11th March.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor exuded confidence on Sunday, asserting his strong belief in securing victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency. With a track record of 15 years of dedicated service to the people of Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor emphasized his commitment to addressing the major issues faced by the constituents.

“I’ve served the people of Thiruvananthapuram for 15 years. They know me and have seen my service. It’s not as if I’ve got anything to be ashamed of in my track record. I’ve been consistently available and attended to all the major issues,” Tharoor stated confidently.

Acknowledging the competitive landscape of Thiruvananthapuram’s political scenario, Tharoor highlighted the three-cornered fight that characterizes the constituency.

Notably, the BJP has fielded Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar against Tharoor, marking Chandrasekhar’s first foray into the Lok Sabha polls. Chandrasekhar, a former national spokesperson of the BJP, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming campaign, vowing to address the vital issues facing the people of Trivandrum.

The Congress party, meanwhile, released its first list of candidates for 39 Lok Sabha constituencies, including seats in states like Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshwadeep, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, and Tripura. The list, comprising candidates from various states, reflects the party’s strategic approach to the upcoming elections.

Of the total 39 candidates announced by Congress, significant representation is allotted to Kerala, Karnataka, and Chhattisgarh, among other states. The release of the candidate list follows the party’s Central Election Committee meeting held on Thursday, indicating the party’s preparedness for the electoral battle.

In contrast, the BJP had earlier unveiled its first list of 195 candidates, setting the stage for a keenly contested electoral showdown.

With the Lok Sabha polls expected to be held in April-May this year, political parties are gearing up for intense campaigning and outreach efforts to secure victory in their respective constituencies.
