Mumbai, 21st March. The NCP led by Sharad Pawar on Wednesday dared the Nationalist Congress Party, led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, to give up the clock symbol and participate in the Lok Sabha elections with a new symbol.
The group supporting Sharad Pawar also mentioned that the Supreme Court’s recent order has severely impacted Ajit Pawar’s camp.
It is important to note that the Supreme Court has instructed Ajit Pawar’s faction to publish a notice in newspapers in English, Hindi, and Marathi stating that the clock symbol is under legal scrutiny and its use is subject to a legal decision.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court has permitted the Sharad Pawar faction to use the name Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, as well as to use a symbol of a man blowing a turha (a traditional trumpet also known as tutari).
This significant ruling by the Supreme Court has dealt a major blow to Ajit Pawar’s NCP faction. The court emphasized that adherence to the tenth schedule of the Constitution is crucial in cases related to defections, stated NCP (SP) spokesperson Mahesh Tapase in a released statement.
Tapase added, “This decision by the Supreme Court not only hampers Ajit Pawar’s group but also sets limits for other factions considering illegitimate political defections with the support of the BJP.”
“If Ajitdada’s faction has even a shred of self-respect left, I challenge them to abandon the clock symbol and face our candidates with a new symbol,” Tapase declared.
