New Delhi, 31st May: Shailendra Nath Gupta today took over as the new Director General of Defence Estates (DGDE). A 1990-batch officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (IDES), Gupta brings over three decades of experience in managing cantonments and defence land across India.
Before this appointment, he held several key positions including CEO of multiple Cantonment Boards, Defence Estate Officer in various circles, Director of Defence Estates at the Central Command, and most recently, Principal Director at the Eastern Command.
The Directorate General of Defence Estates (DGDE) is entrusted with managing nearly 18 lakh acres of defence land nationwide. It functions through six regional commands, 38 Defence Estates Circles, and oversees the functioning of 61 Cantonment Boards.
Gupta’s leadership is expected to bring continuity and reform to the crucial task of managing defence land assets and urban governance in cantonment areas.
