Senior Delhi Congress Leader Jai Kishan Passes Away at 66

New Delhi– Senior Congress leader and five-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, Jai Kishan, passed away on Thursday due to a cardiac arrest at his residence in Sultanpur Majra, Delhi. He was 66.

Jai Kishan, a prominent Dalit face of the Delhi Congress, had a long and impactful political career. Despite contesting the Delhi Assembly elections in February 2025, he did not succeed in returning to the legislature. He had earlier served as AICC secretary and vice president of the Delhi Congress unit and remained actively involved in party affairs for decades.

Top Congress leaders expressed deep sorrow at the veteran leader’s demise. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on X, described his passing as an irreparable loss to the party.

“As a dedicated Congress worker, he served the people and contributed to the empowerment of the underprivileged sections of society,” Kharge stated, offering condolences to the bereaved family and supporters.

Congress general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal also paid tribute, highlighting Jai Kishan’s inspiring journey from a marginalised background to becoming a respected public figure. “He served the public and the party with immense dedication for many years, leaving an indelible mark on those he touched,” said Venugopal.

Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav also mourned the loss, praying for peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this difficult time.
