New Delhi, 14th Dec. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the 50th Foundation Day ceremony of the Indian Posts & Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service (IPTAFS) at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) today. Highlighting the erosion of meaningful dialogue as a critical challenge to institutions, he emphasized the importance of balancing expression and dialogue for democratic vitality.

“Expression and meaningful dialogue are priceless jewels of democracy,” Dhankhar stated, stressing that India’s democratic journey exemplifies how diversity and demographic potential fuel national progress. He underscored the need for democratic systems to be rooted in core values rather than mere structures.

The Vice President called for self-audit and scrutiny, warning against institutional degeneration. “Self-audit is crucial. If an institution or individual avoids scrutiny, degeneration is assured,” he remarked.

Addressing modern challenges, Dhankhar urged civil servants to adapt to technological advancements. He emphasized the necessity for civil servants to be tech-savvy, innovative, and collaborative, transcending traditional administrative roles. “We are at the cusp of another industrial revolution with technologies like AI, IoT, and blockchain shaping our lives. Civil servants must evolve to meet these challenges,” he added.

Dhankhar also stressed the importance of bridging the digital divide, particularly in rural areas, leveraging India’s youth demographic. He called for synergy among government departments and institutions, emphasizing cross-departmental collaboration for effective governance.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Member Finance Manish Sinha, and other dignitaries were present at the event, celebrating five decades of IPTAFS contributions to nation-building.

The Vice President concluded with a call to civil servants to uphold their responsibilities as nation builders, helping script India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
