Kolkata, 5th Sept. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, has found a critical document revealing that former principal Sandip Ghosh instructed the state public works department (PWD) to carry out renovation work in areas adjacent to the crime scene a day after the victim’s body was recovered.
The woman’s body was discovered on the morning of August 9 in the seminar room within the hospital premises. According to sources, investigators have secured a key document showing that Ghosh issued a permission letter, dated August 10, authorizing the PWD to conduct renovations in a room and toilet next to the seminar hall where the crime took place. The letter, signed by Ghosh, confirms his active involvement in expediting the renovation process.
Initially, it was believed that the instruction for the renovation was given by an administrative official under Ghosh’s orders. However, the letter directly links Ghosh to the decision, raising questions about the timing and purpose of the renovation, which began just days after the body was found.
On August 13, hours after the Calcutta High Court’s division bench ordered the CBI to take over the investigation from Kolkata Police, PWD staff attempted to start renovation work near the seminar hall. However, student protests within the hospital halted the work as soon as it began.
Investigators suspect that Ghosh’s eagerness to commence the renovation may provide a vital link between two ongoing CBI investigations: one into the rape and murder case and another into financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College. Ghosh is currently in CBI custody for his alleged involvement in financial misconduct at the institution.
Medical fraternity representatives have voiced concerns that the victim’s murder may be tied to her knowledge of the financial irregularities, suggesting that the crime was not an isolated incident but part of a larger conspiracy.
The CBI’s investigation continues as they piece together the events surrounding the brutal crime and the possible motives behind it.
