Chandigarh, 2nd July. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced its support for Draupadi Murmu, the NDA’s presidential candidate. SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal made the announcement following a meeting of the party’s office-bearers in Chandigarh.
Badal stated that, despite disagreements with the BJP on some issues, the SAD has decided to support the NDA Presidential candidate because the SAD has always advocated for the underprivileged and vulnerable sections of society. He stated that they cannot support a candidate supported by Congress.
Draupadi Murmu had previously met with Shiromani Akali Dal leaders in Chandigarh to seek their support in the Presidential elections. Murmu also met with Haryana BJP and JJP MLAs and MPs, as well as Punjab BJP leaders.
She was greeted at Haryana Bhawan in Chandigarh by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Haryana BJP chief Om Parkash Dhankar, and Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma.
