Lucknow, 14th June.
The Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up for the second phase of the Population Stabilisation Fortnight, scheduled from June 27 to July 10, with a focus on community mobilisation and awareness. Key activities planned include unique initiatives like the ‘Saas-Beta-Bahu Sammelan’ as part of efforts to emphasize the significance of family planning.

According to official sources, various engagements such as ‘Sarathi Vahan’ will also be organized during this fortnight to educate the public about the importance of maintaining optimal family size. The initiative aims to provide consultations on a range of family planning methods at health facilities, ensuring accessibility for interested beneficiaries.

Principal Secretary of Medical, Health, and Family Welfare, Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, has issued directives to all District Magistrates and Chief Medical Officers in the state in preparation for World Population Day on July 11. This annual event seeks to raise awareness about population stabilization, aligning with ongoing efforts to promote family welfare in Uttar Pradesh.

Dr. Pinky Jovel, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, highlighted the active participation of officials, health workers, and communities in the Population Stabilisation Fortnight. The initiative has reportedly contributed to a decline in Uttar Pradesh’s Total Fertility Rate (TFR) based on data from the National Family Health Survey.

The first phase of the Population Stabilisation Fortnight commenced on June 1 and will continue until June 20, focusing on motivating targeted couples and ensuring effective service delivery. Efforts include capacity building for healthcare providers and ensuring the availability of family planning resources across the state.

This year’s campaign slogan, ‘Viksit Bharat ki Nayi Pehchan, Parivar Niyojan Har Dampati Ki Shaan’ (A Developed India’s New Identity, Family Planning Pride of Every Couple), underscores the theme of timely and well-spaced pregnancies for maternal and child health.

Dr. Suryansh Ojha, General Manager of the Family Welfare Program, emphasized the drive’s focus on encouraging the adoption of modern family planning methods and enhancing logistical support through the Family Planning Logistic Management Information System (FPLMIS) portal.

Districts are encouraged to innovate and implement effective strategies during the fortnight, ensuring comprehensive coverage and support for family welfare programs across Uttar Pradesh.
