Russia Arrests ISIS Suicide Bomber Planning to Assassinate Suspended BJP Leader Nupur Sharma

New Delhi, 23rd August. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) confirmed the arrest of a suicide bomber, a member of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group, who was planning a terrorist attack against one of “India’s leadership elite” to avenge Prophet Muhammad’s insult.

During interrogation, the detained ISIS recruit stated that he was supposed to be given things in India to “commit a terrorist attack at the behest of the IS for insult to Prophet Muhammad.”

“Russia’s FSB identified and detained a member of the Islamic State international terrorist organization banned in Russia, a native of a country in the Central Asian region, who planned to commit a terrorist act by blowing himself up against one of the representatives of the ruling circles of India,” the authority informed in a statement.

According to the Russian security agency, the detained ISIS bomber was recruited in Turkey between April and June of this year, and his indoctrination was done remotely via the Telegram app.

“It has been established that a foreigner in the period from April to June 2022, while on the territory of the Republic of Turkey, was recruited by one of the leaders of the ITO “IS” as a suicide bomber. His indoctrination was carried out remotely through the accounts of the messenger Telegram and during personal meetings in Istanbul by a representative of the terrorist organization, the Russian security agency statement further said.

“As a result, the terrorist took an oath of allegiance to the Amir of IS. After that, he was given the task of leaving for Russia and completing the necessary documents and flying to India to commit a high-profile terrorist act,” the FSB statement added.

The Islamic State (IS) and all of its manifestations have been designated as terrorist organizations by the central government and are listed in the First Schedule to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 1967.

According to the Union Home Ministry, IS is spreading its ideology through various internet-based social media platforms. The agencies concerned are keeping a close eye on cyberspace in this regard, and action is being taken in accordance with the law.
