New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in New Delhi on Tuesday. This meeting occurred following a high-level security briefing chaired by PM Modi, involving key defense and security officials.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi convened a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the three service chiefs, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. This gathering followed a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on April 23, prompted by the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities.
Government sources indicated that PM Modi reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism during the security briefing. He expressed unwavering confidence in the Indian Armed Forces, granting them complete autonomy in determining the method, target, and timing of India’s response.
The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had also met with the Prime Minister on Monday, following a briefing from the Chief of Defence Staff on the actions taken in response to the Pahalgam attack.
The government has affirmed that those responsible for the attack, including its planners, will face severe consequences.
Following the attack, the Centre convened an all-party meeting, where opposition parties pledged their full support for any action the government takes against the perpetrators.
During the CCS briefing, it was revealed that the attack had cross-border links. Officials emphasized that the attack occurred during a period of political stability and economic progress in Jammu and Kashmir, including the successful conduct of recent elections.
In a strong response to Pakistan’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism, the government has decided to place the Indus Water Treaty on hold.
