New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar lauded Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna’s unprecedented move to place all relevant material in the public domain regarding a pressing judicial matter.
In a meeting with Leader of the House J.P. Nadda and Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Dhankhar described the Chief Justice’s transparency as a “step in the right direction” and emphasized the need for robust in-house mechanisms within institutions to uphold public trust.
“For the first time since independence, the Chief Justice has acted with remarkable transparency, ensuring that all material is publicly accessible,” Dhankhar stated, commending the swift formation of a committee to address the issue.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman announced plans for a meeting with floor leaders in the Upper House, following a suggestion by Kharge. Dhankhar underlined that the steps taken so far were unprecedented and stressed the importance of eradicating institutional malaise to prevent future recurrences.
Both Nadda and Kharge expressed their support for strengthening institutional integrity and ensuring that public trust remains paramount. The upcoming floor leaders’ meeting is expected to further deliberate on the matter.
