GG News Bureau
Thane, 12th Nov. Ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, authorities seized Rs 3.7 crore in cash during separate operations in Thane district on Monday. Officials reported that a substantial portion of the cash, Rs 2.5 crore, was recovered from a bungalow belonging to a builder in Navi Mumbai’s Nerul area following a tip-off.

The police have initiated an investigation to determine the origins and ownership of the seized funds, according to a police official.

In a separate operation, a flying squad, in coordination with the police, intercepted a cash van carrying Rs 1.2 crore near Bapgaon while en route from Bhiwandi to Kalyan. As the occupants were unable to provide satisfactory documentation for the cash, it was subsequently seized by authorities, officials confirmed.

The heightened surveillance comes as Maharashtra gears up for assembly elections scheduled on November 20, with results expected on November 23. Key candidates in Thane include Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik.
