Patna, 9th August. Major rivers in Bihar surpassed their danger levels on Thursday following continuous rainfall, prompting authorities to issue an alert.
The Water Resources Department reported that moderate to heavy rainfall in various regions of the state has led to rising water levels in key rivers, including the Bagmati, Gandak, Ganga, Kamla Balan, and Kosi.
The Ganga is currently flowing above the danger mark at Gandhi Ghat in Patna, affecting surrounding rural areas. Similarly, the Bagmati River has reached a critical water level of 49.7 meters in Muzaffarpur, exceeding the danger threshold of 48.68 meters. The Gandak River also crossed the danger mark in Gopalganj and Sidhwalia on Thursday.
Patna’s District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh, assured that the situation is being closely monitored and that precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable areas.
The Disaster Management Department has forecasted light to moderate rain in several districts over the next 24 hours, adding to the ongoing concerns.
