“Rise of India Bodes Well for Global Stability and Peace,” says VP Dhankhar at India-Africa Conclave

New Delhi, 22nd August. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar underscored India’s pivotal role in promoting global stability and peace, emphasizing the nation’s inclusive and multilateral approach in advancing the interests of the Global South.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave themed “Creating ONE Future,” the Vice-President highlighted the significance of synergizing efforts for a common future, with public participation as a key driver.
“India’s rise, as a vibrant democracy and home to one-sixth of humanity, bodes well for global stability and peace,” stated Vice-President Dhankhar.
He called for a united global effort to address climate change, which he termed as “a ticking bomb” and “the greatest threat to humanity,” urging for mass involvement and the optimal use of natural resources, as there is “no other planet to inhabit.”
The Vice-President elaborated on the strong historical ties between India and Africa, emphasizing their shared histories and mutual aspirations for a just and progressive future. He pointed out that a resurgent Africa and a rising India could significantly boost South-South Cooperation, particularly in areas like clean technology, climate-resilient agriculture, maritime security, and the blue economy.
Dhankhar praised the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s Presidency in 2023, calling it a significant geopolitical development and a matter of great pride. He also commended African countries for their participation in global initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, the Global Biofuel Alliance, and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.
The Vice-President expressed India’s gratitude towards Africa for its role in restoring India’s biodiversity by providing cheetahs, a gesture that he said created an “emotive connect” between Bharat and Africa. He invited African countries to join the International Big Cat Alliance.
Reaffirming India’s historical stance against expansionism, Vice-President Dhankhar highlighted India’s participatory approach in building and strengthening global partnerships. He noted that India’s advancements in digitization and technology offer numerous opportunities for mutual cooperation and shared success.
The event also saw the participation of Vice-Presidents from several African nations, along with other dignitaries including Sanjiv Puri, President of CII and Chairman & Managing Director of ITC Ltd, and Noel Tata, Chairman of the CII Africa Committee and Chairman of Tata International Ltd.
