Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, addressing the Constitution Day celebration at the Samvidhan Sadan on November 26, 2024, raised concerns about declining standards in parliamentary discourse and called for restoring the sanctity of democratic institutions.

Highlighting the critical role of constructive debate, the Vice-President stated, “With decorum and discipline in parliamentary discourse deteriorating, it is imperative to resolve to uphold the pristine glory of our Constituent Assembly. Disturbance as a strategy undermines democratic institutions.”

    Referring to the opening words of the Constitution, “We the People of India,” Shri Dhankhar emphasized that citizens are the ultimate authority, with Parliament acting as their voice. He described the Preamble as democracy’s guiding “North Star.”

    The Vice-President urged a recommitment to Fundamental Duties, including protecting sovereignty, fostering unity, and safeguarding the environment. “Time for us to fully commit to our fundamental duties for a Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he remarked.

    Reflecting on the dark days of the Emergency, Shri Dhankhar underscored the need to prioritize national welfare over personal or political interests. Quoting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he warned against placing political creed above the nation.
