New Delhi — Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services across India faced yet another disruption on Saturday morning, leaving users unable to complete digital monetary transactions. This marks the third such outage within the last 20 days, raising concerns over the reliability of the country’s most widely used digital payment system.
According to outage tracking platform DownDetector, over 1,168 complaints were registered by Saturday afternoon, with a majority of users reporting issues while transferring funds. Google Pay accounted for 96 of the complaints, while 23 came from Paytm users.
The latest snag affected individuals and businesses alike, disrupting essential day-to-day payments and commercial operations. The root cause of the outage remains unidentified, and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has not issued a statement as of this report.
This is the third UPI failure in recent weeks:
- April 2 saw 514 complaints, with users citing delays and failed transfers. NPCI acknowledged “fluctuations” in bank success rates and coordinated with banks to restore normalcy.
- March 26 witnessed one of the most widespread outages, logging over 3,000 complaints and affecting platforms like Google Pay and Paytm for up to three hours.
With UPI forming the backbone of India’s digital payments ecosystem, the repeated disruptions are causing growing frustration among users who rely on the platform for routine transactions.
The full extent of Saturday’s disruption remains unclear, and users await a formal response from the authorities.
