Mandi, 9th April. Jaspreet Pal, a 44-year-old cyclist from Upper Samkhetar in Mandi district, has been named the State Election Icon in Himachal Pradesh. This decision aims to inspire young people to vote and make voters aware of the importance of their votes in the democratic process.
A formal agreement was signed by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Maneesh Garg representing the State Election Department and Jaspreet Pal on Monday.
Jaspreet Pal is not only an enthusiastic cyclist and professional photographer but has also made significant contributions to child literacy and environmental conservation.
During a conversation with Jaspreet Pal, the CEO proposed organizing a cycling relay rally or race across the state to raise awareness among voters and encourage mass participation.
Prior to this, the CEO mentioned that Jaspreet Pal has cycled approximately 21,000 kilometers across challenging terrains, won the Fire Fox Challenge cycling championship, and secured the second position in the MTB championship in 2021.
The CEO stated that involving Jaspreet in this initiative is aimed at engaging young people in both urban and rural areas of the state to vote and prioritize their health and fitness.
The upcoming elections for the four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh and the by-elections for the six assembly constituencies left vacant due to the disqualification of six rebel Congress MLAs who later joined the BJP are scheduled for June 1.
