Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday stressed the importance of maintaining the sanctity of religious places, despite the increased accessibility due to development works.

Speaking at an event to commemorate the foundation days of Uttarakhand and Jharkhand, Shukla emphasized that while advancements like helicopter services have made pilgrimages easier, these religious sites should not be treated as picnic spots.

Reflecting on the past, the Governor noted that earlier, devotees would undertake long journeys on foot to reach religious sites, whereas today, the journey is often shortened by technology.

He cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s example of visiting Kedarnath, where his prayers and meditations send a strong message of reverence for sacred places.

Shukla emphasized the need to preserve India’s cultural heritage and traditions alongside embracing development. He urged that respect for religious sanctity and the nation’s values must go hand in hand with progress to ensure the country’s rich legacy is maintained.

The Governor also highlighted the Centre’s initiative to celebrate each state’s foundation day at the Raj Bhavan, fostering unity and connecting people across regions.
