New Delhi, 19th Feb. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, ending nearly two weeks of speculation. Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, is the fourth woman to hold the post, following Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).

Gupta, 50, secured victory in the February 5 Assembly elections by defeating AAP’s Bandna Kumari by over 29,000 votes. She will take the oath of office on Thursday at noon in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan.

Expressing gratitude for the party’s trust, Gupta wrote on X, “I pledge to work with honesty and dedication for the welfare and development of every citizen of Delhi.”

Born in Haryana’s Jind district on July 19, 1974, Gupta moved to Delhi in 1976. She began her political journey in Delhi University, becoming the DUSU President in 1996-97 as an ABVP candidate. Over the years, she rose through BJP ranks, serving in the party’s youth wing and as the National Secretary of the BJYM.

Her leadership skills and commitment to the party have now earned her the top post in Delhi’s government.
