Regionalism vs Nationalism Debate is Absurd and Baseless: VP Dhankhar

GG News Bureau
Ranebennur, 7th Feb. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has raised concerns over increasing divisive forces attempting to create rifts in the country, stating that challenges to India’s unity are more serious than even climate change. Inaugurating the third edition of the Karnataka Vaibhava Literature and Cultural Festival, he questioned the very notion of debating regionalism versus nationalism in India.

“I don’t understand how there can be a discussion of regionalism versus nationalism in this country. It is absurd and baseless. When you look at its roots, you will find the hand of anti-national forces,” Dhankhar remarked. He further asserted that money and judicial access were being misused to propagate anti-national sentiments in recent years.

Highlighting the attempts to influence India’s electoral process, the Vice President said, “There are elements within the country who should not have any role in our elections, yet they are actively participating in attempts to distort our democratic framework.”

Judiciary Weaponization and Cultural Erosion

Dhankhar warned against the manipulation of India’s legal system, stating that while the judiciary is meant to serve justice, certain forces have been exploiting it to undermine national interests. “The right to judicial recourse is a fundamental provision in our Constitution, but in recent times, financial and legal mechanisms have been misused to stoke anti-national sentiments. This is a phenomenon not seen in any other country.”

Expressing concern over cultural degradation, he urged citizens to protect India’s rich traditions. “We need to preserve our cultural philosophy today. Unfortunately, we are cutting the very branch on which we are thriving,” he said, using a metaphor of a peacock whose beauty is celebrated, yet its feet remain ignored.

India’s Global Economic Standing

Reiterating India’s growing economic influence, the Vice President cited global institutions like the IMF and World Bank, which regard India as a key investment destination. “If there is a shining star for global investment, if there is a land of opportunity, it is India. Despite this, some forces seek to hinder the nation’s progress.”

The Karnataka Vaibhava Literature and Cultural Festival is an annual event that celebrates Karnataka’s rich literary and artistic heritage. The Vice President’s remarks come at a time when discussions on nationalism, regional identity, and electoral integrity continue to dominate national discourse.
