Patna, 20th April. Ravi Shankar Prasad, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated that the Constitution faced danger when the Congress declared an emergency in the country and attempted to alter it.
He also mentioned that there are signs indicating that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) could secure more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. The first phase of voting for 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories took place on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, Prasad expressed confidence in the NDA’s performance, stating, “We talk about crossing 400 seats, and now it seems like we might even surpass that… The opposition is getting frustrated with their impending defeat; their only claim is that the Constitution will be changed. But who is actually proposing these changes?”
He said that during Congress rule, especially during the emergency period, there were attempts to alter the Constitution. Prasad criticized the Congress for their history of trying to change the Constitution, with support from leftist parties like Lalu Yadav’s. He clarified that the real threat to the Constitution comes from them, not from Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP.
Bihar will witness voting for all 40 Lok Sabha seats across seven phases. The first phase included polling for four seats – Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, and Aurangabad. Subsequent phases will cover the remaining seats.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA, consisting of BJP, JD (U), and LJP, won 39 out of 40 seats in Bihar. The BJP secured 17 seats with a vote share of 24.1%, JD (U) won 16 seats with a vote share of 22.3%, and LJP claimed six seats with an 8% vote share. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD, INC, and RLSP, only managed to win one seat.
