Mumbai, 12th Feb. Podcaster and social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, known as “BeerBiceps,” has seen a sharp decline in his Instagram followers following a controversy over his remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s roast show India’s Got Latent.
According to HypeAuditor, Allahbadia’s Instagram account “BeerBiceps” lost nearly 50,000 followers, dropping from 45.27 lakh on February 9 to 44.80 lakh by February 11. His second account, “ranveerallahbadia,” also witnessed a dip from 34.39 lakh to 34.21 lakh in the same period.
The backlash stems from a viral clip in which Allahbadia made an obscene and inappropriate remark towards a contestant during the show. While the audience and fellow comics laughed at the comment, it soon sparked outrage, leading to legal complaints.
On Monday, lawyers Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra wrote to Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the state women’s commission, demanding action, citing the remarks as disrespectful towards women.
The controversy also drew criticism from journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra, who condemned the trend of creators prioritizing vulgarity for reach and revenue. Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also reacted, calling the remark “perverse” and warning against normalizing such behavior.
Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued an apology, admitting his comment was inappropriate and unfunny. “Comedy is not my forte. I’m sorry,” he stated in a video message.
