Mumbai: Bollywood film ‘Jatt’, starring Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh, has sparked controversy following its release on April 10. Members of the Christian community have raised strong objections to a particular scene in which actor Randeep Hooda is shown standing beneath a holy cross on the church altar while people are seen praying. The scene also depicts violence and intimidation inside the church, which the community has found deeply offensive.
Christian leaders have stated that the depiction has hurt their religious sentiments and insulted the sanctity of the altar, considered the most sacred part of a church. They allege the scene is part of a deliberate attempt to malign Christianity in India and portrays acts of violence and coercion against the faith.
Initially, members of the community had planned to stage protests outside cinema halls, but police intervened to prevent gatherings. Instead, protestors submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner of Police, demanding an immediate ban on the screening of Jatt in theatres.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced under the People Media Factory banner in association with Maitri Movie Makers and TG Vishwa Prasad, the film is now facing widespread criticism. Community leaders claim the film promotes religious hostility and intentionally disrespects Christian beliefs. They have demanded legal action under laws pertaining to religious desecration and called for a complete ban on the film.
