Mainpuri, 28th Nov. Ramgopal Yadav, a senior Samajwadi Party leader, called the Akhilesh Yadav-Shivpal Yadav reunion “enduring,” and slammed the BJP for calling it a “drama” out of fear of losing the Mainpuri bypoll, saying “everything looks like drama for people adept in theatrics.”
The SP secretary general also slammed the ruling party for previously claiming that the lotus would bloom in the seat represented by Mulayam Singh Yadav, claiming that they are “living in a fool’s paradise.”
He also chastised the BJP for labeling Dimple Yadav’s selection as the party’s candidate in Mainpuri as “parivarvad” (dynastic politics), asking if there was no parivarvad in that party.
”The BJP people enact dramas, and hence everything to them appears to be a drama. They also perceive the truth and reality as drama. Everything of theirs is false, and is a drama,” Ramgopal Yadav told PTI in an interview.
The senior SP leader stated that the reunion of family members after burying their differences would continue in the future.
The latest chacha-bhatija (Shivpal-Akhilesh) reunion came after days of speculation, and the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) president said a phone call from daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav broke the ice.
This is the fourth time the feuding uncle and nephew have joined hands since they split up six years ago.
Rivals claim that the latest reunion will not last and that the two will split up again after the Mainpuri bypoll.
Apart from Akhilesh touching Shivpal’s feet at the dias during an election meeting in Jaswantnagar recently, the broader reconciliation in the Yadav was visible when Shivpal touched Ramgopal Yadav’s feet at another event.
There was speculation in political circles that ties between Akhilesh and Shivpal were fraying due to differences between the PSPL head and Ramgopal Yadav following a bitter power struggle in Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political family that began in 2016. Shivpal Yadav is Mulayam Singh Yadav’s younger brother, and Ramgopal Yadav is his cousin.
To BJP leaders’ claims that the lotus (BJP’s election symbol) will bloom in Mainpuri and the SP’s last bastion will fall, the SP Rajya Sabha member said, “BJP leaders are living in a fool’s paradise. The Samajwadi Party will win all five assembly segments in the Mainpuri parliamentary constituency, and you will see the results on December 8.”
In response to accusations that the SP was engaging in ‘parivarvad’ by running Dimple Yadav as its candidate, the SP secretary general stated, “They (BJP) have given nothing to the people except false promises, so what will they say?” They’ll talk about Hindus and Muslims or say there’s a ‘parivarvad,’ as if there aren’t any in their party.”
Ramgopal Yadav said the bypoll is very important with both the ruling party and the SP using all its power to win.
”The SP workers are considering this bypoll as their own election. This is such a constituency, where our workers will try their level best to ensure that the voters have exercised their voting rights, and the winning margin increases (this time),” he said.
Ramgopal Yadav stated that the byelection is critical, with both the ruling party and the SP exerting every effort to win.
He claimed that the administration will try to prevent SP voters from exercising their franchise and that they have already begun arresting party workers for bailable offenses for which no one could be imprisoned. “They (SP employees) are forced to sit in police stations, and bail is denied to them,” he claimed.
Ramgopal Yadav claimed that the SP would foil every “sarkari tikram” (government trick) and urged party workers to treat the elections as a matter of “own personal honor” and ensure that every vote is cast in favor of Dimple Yadav.
On whether the Samajwadi Party is attempting to save its last bastion, the party’s national general secretary stated, “This place has never faced any sort of problems until now.” The Samajwadi Party lost elections only once, in 1984, when Balram Singh ran on a Congress ticket.
“In the last Lok Sabha elections, all of us were busy, and some things had happened, and there were a number of factors,” he said, expressing confidence that the victory margin in the bypolls will be much greater than that in the 2019 polls. There is no need to discuss those factors at this time because they do not exist. And the margin of victory will undoubtedly be greater than that of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.” He was apparently referring to the separation of Akhilesh and Shivpal at the time, and the BJP exploiting the schism in the Yadav family.
The bypoll was called due to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s death last month.
Mainpuri voters will go to the polls on December 5, and the votes will be counted on December 8.
