Rajya Sabha Passes Bill to Grant Special Status to 6 More Institutes of Pharmaceutical Education and Research

New Delhi, 9th Dec. The Upper House of Parliament on Thursday passed the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

This bill has already been passed in Lok Sabha on Dec 6.

It provides for setting up of a council for these institutions along with granting special status to six more institutes of pharmaceutical education and research.

The National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Bill, 2021 amends the 1998 Act to establish the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Punjab and declare it as an Institute of National Importance.

The Bill gives grants to six additional National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research as institutions of national importance. These institutes are located at Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Rae Bareli, Ahmedabad and Hajipur.

The Council will consist of, among other members, the Minister in charge of the Pharmaceutical Department (ex-officio) as the Chairman and the Minister of State as the Vice-Chairman.
