New Delhi, 16th Feb. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has submitted a detailed response to the Lok Sabha Secretariat on the notices moved by BJP members regarding his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House.
Mr Gandhi made the remarks about Modi during a debate on the ‘Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address’ on February 7.
In a letter dated February 10, the Lok Sabha Secretariat asked Gandhi to respond to breach of privilege notices issued by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Pralhad Joshi – also the parliamentary affairs minister – by February 15 for the Lok Sabha speaker’s consideration.
The notices were moved by BJP MPs in response to Gandhi’s February 7 speech, in which he commented on the Hindenburg-Adani issue.
According to sources, Gandhi has provided a detailed response that spans several pages, citing various laws and precedents to justify his remarks in Lok Sabha.
On Monday, while addressing a crowd in Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency, Gandhi criticized the decision to remove several remarks from his speech made during the House debate.
He also stated that he had “written to the speaker with every single point they have removed and supporting proof,” and that he had not used any foul or abusive language in his speech to the Lower House of Parliament.
In their notices to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, both BJP leaders claimed that Gandhi’s comments were unfounded and that he made “contemptuous, unparliamentary, and dishonourable” allegations.
Following his speech, the speaker removed several remarks made by Gandhi.
