New Delhi, 6th Dec. A delegation of concerned citizens and experts met Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, on Thursday to discuss the escalating air pollution crisis, urging immediate action to address what they called a “public health emergency.” The delegation, including renowned medical expert Dr. Sanjeev Bagai, environmentalists Jai Dhar Gupta and Vimlendu Jha, and Bhavreen Khandari from Warrior Moms, presented a petition highlighting the gravity of the situation and proposed practical steps to combat the air pollution crisis.
During the meeting at the Parliament House premises, Gandhi assured the delegation that he would raise the issue in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament and advocate for immediate steps to tackle the growing crisis. The delegation stressed that air pollution poses a severe threat to public health and well-being, particularly in North India, where the problem has reached alarming levels.
Gandhi echoed their concerns, calling the situation a “national emergency.” He emphasized that air pollution is not only a public health crisis but also an environmental and economic disaster. Ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session, the Congress leader urged fellow MPs to join forces and work towards a collective national response to end the crisis, steering away from political blame games.
In a social media post, Gandhi shared a video where he discussed the air pollution issue with environmentalist Vimlendu Jha at India Gate, calling it a “public health crisis that is stealing our children’s future and suffocating the elderly.” He further emphasized that this environmental disaster is ruining countless lives and urged for immediate collective action.
