New Delhi, 10th Feb.
BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Monday took a sharp swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, ridiculing his party’s repeated electoral failures in Delhi. Thakur, speaking in Parliament, highlighted the Congress’s inability to win a single seat in the capital for the third consecutive time, while also referencing a popular meme to mock Gandhi.

Holding up a placard that read “zero tax till ₹12 lakh income”, Thakur said, “Rahul ji, check the zero,” alluding to an internet meme where a doctored image of Gandhi as a fuel station attendant asks a customer to “check the zero” on the fuel meter. He added that while the Congress might be upset about the “zero,” the BJP-led government sees happiness in crores of common people due to tax relief measures announced in Budget 2025.

Congress’s “Zero” Track Record in Delhi

Listing Congress’s electoral defeats, Thakur asked how many seats the party had won in various elections. Each time, BJP MPs responded in unison: “Zero.”

“If anyone has made a record of zeroes, it is the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi,” Thakur declared. He pointed out that Congress failed to win even a single seat in:

  • 2014 Lok Sabha elections: Zero
  • 2015 Delhi Assembly elections: Zero
  • 2019 Lok Sabha elections: Zero
  • 2020 Delhi Assembly elections: Zero
  • 2024 Lok Sabha elections: Zero
  • 2025 Delhi Assembly elections: Zero

The BJP, after nearly three decades, stormed back to power in Delhi, securing close to 50 of the 70 Assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which previously dominated, was reduced to 22.

Thakur’s Dig at Congress Over Tax Policies

Thakur also took a swipe at the Congress’s economic policies, recalling how high-income tax rates burdened citizens when the party was in power. He emphasized that under the BJP, the tax structure has been eased, benefiting the middle class.

His remarks come a day after he called Rahul Gandhi an “urban Naxal” over the Congress leader’s allegations of irregular voter expansions in Maharashtra ahead of the Assembly elections.

With the BJP consolidating its dominance in Delhi, Congress’s failure to regain ground remains a major setback for the opposition.
