Punjab Prepares for Municipal Elections with Robust Security Arrangements

Chandigarh, 6th Dec. Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri convened a high-level meeting on Thursday to review security preparations for the upcoming municipal elections slated for December end. The meeting included Home Secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, Special Director General of Police (DGP) Arpit Shukla, and State Election Commission Secretary Jagjit Singh.

In a statement, Chaudhuri outlined that elections will be conducted for five municipal corporations, 44 municipal councils/nagar panchayats, and by-elections for 43 wards of municipal councils and six wards in other municipal corporations.

A total of 1,609 polling locations with 3,717 booths have been designated, with 344 classified as ‘hypersensitive’ and 665 as ‘sensitive.’ To ensure smooth and secure polling, 20,486 police personnel will be deployed across the state.

Special DGP Arpit Shukla has been tasked with overseeing security and law-and-order arrangements for the elections. Chaudhuri assured that adequate police forces would be stationed at all polling locations to maintain peace and order during the elections.
