Pune Police Seize ₹5 Crore in Cash During Assembly Polls’ Code of Conduct

Pune, 22nd Oct. Pune rural police have seized ₹5 crore in unaccounted cash from a car amid the model code of conduct in place for the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, scheduled for November 20.

The seizure occurred on Monday evening near Khed-Shivapur plaza on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway during a routine police nakabandi (on-road checking).

According to an official statement, the police intercepted a vehicle traveling towards Satara and discovered the cash hidden inside, belonging to its four occupants.

“The money is being counted by police and district election officials. A probe into the source of the cash and other details is underway,” the Pune rural police official stated.

Additionally, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut took to X on Monday night, alleging that ₹15 crore had been seized from a vehicle owned by an MLA from the Shiv Sena, which is led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The developments come amid heightened scrutiny and enforcement of election-related regulations as the polling date approaches.
