Kolkata, 23rd August. The Sealdah court in Kolkata on Friday remanded Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the brutal rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor, to 14 days of judicial custody. Roy was presented at the Sealdah Civil and Criminal Court under tight security, following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 10.

Roy’s CBI custody, which began after his arrest, concluded today, leading to his remand. A special court in Kolkata had previously granted permission to the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on Roy. However, it was noted that polygraph test results are not admissible as evidence in court but are used to aid investigative procedures.

Investigations into Roy’s psychological profile uncovered alarming details. A psychoanalytic assessment revealed his addiction to pornography, along with aggressive, primal behaviours, and a startling lack of remorse or guilt for his alleged crime.

Further details from police sources indicated that Roy may have consumed alcohol before committing the crime. CCTV footage reportedly captured Roy entering the hospital’s emergency building at 4 AM on the day of the crime, wearing a Bluetooth device. He was seen leaving approximately 40 minutes later, without the device. The missing Bluetooth was later found near the victim’s body, and analysis linked it to Roy’s phone, solidifying the case against him.

The case has shocked the city and raised concerns over safety in medical institutions, as Roy remains in custody while the investigation continues.
