New Delhi, 30th May: President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the prestigious National Florence Nightingale Awards 2025 on exemplary nurses from across the country at a solemn ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
Instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 1973, the awards recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the field of nursing and patient care. The award is named after Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, and is one of the highest honours for healthcare workers in India.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu lauded the dedication, compassion, and selfless service of nurses, particularly in challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. She called them the “backbone of the healthcare system” and highlighted their vital role in delivering quality healthcare across the country.
Each recipient of the National Florence Nightingale Award receives:
- A gold or silver medal
- A certificate of merit
- A cash prize of ₹1,00,000
This year, 15 nurses were selected from different states and healthcare institutions for their exceptional service in areas such as rural health outreach, maternal care, mental health nursing, and pandemic response.

The event was attended by Union Health Ministry officials, healthcare professionals, and dignitaries from across the country.
