New Delhi, 17th Dec. President Droupadi Murmu welcomed Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of Sri Lanka, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. The visit marks a significant moment in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

During the meeting, President Murmu congratulated President Disanayaka on his recent electoral victory and reaffirmed India’s support for Sri Lanka’s sustainable economic development. Highlighting Sri Lanka’s pivotal role in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) Vision, she assured continued collaboration to advance mutual interests.

A joint statement issued earlier in the day emphasized the commitment of both nations to deepen their multifaceted partnership. President Murmu noted that India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka aligns with its priorities, expressing confidence that investment-led initiatives would aid Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and stability.

The historical and cultural ties between the two nations were highlighted as key elements driving bilateral cooperation. Both leaders expressed optimism that this high-level engagement would further peace, prosperity, and mutual development.

President Murmu hosted a banquet in honor of President Disanayaka and his delegation, capping a day of meaningful discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.
