New Delhi— The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, H.E. Mr. Antonio Tajani, called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The visit underscored the growing strength of the India-Italy strategic partnership and the shared vision of deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Welcoming Deputy PM Tajani and his delegation, President Murmu highlighted the deep-rooted civilizational ties between India and Italy, which have flourished through centuries of trade, cultural exchange, and shared contributions to global philosophy, literature, and the arts.

President Murmu noted the increasing collaboration between the two nations in emerging technologies, innovation, and defence. She also emphasised their joint engagement on global platforms like the G-20.

Pointing to India’s rapid economic progress and the country’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, the President invited Italian companies and public sector undertakings to expand their presence in India. She encouraged collaboration, particularly in manufacturing, co-production, and green technology. Italian companies were urged to explore mutually beneficial partnerships with Indian industries, especially in the sustainability and renewable energy sectors.

The President recalled the Joint Strategic Action Plan announced during the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rio in November 2024. She described it as a key roadmap for intensifying cooperation over the next five years.

President Murmu also expressed satisfaction over growing academic and research linkages, noting that Indian education reforms now permit foreign universities to establish campuses in India. She welcomed the possibility of Italian institutions establishing a presence in the country.

Both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening the India-Italy strategic partnership and expressed confidence that bilateral ties would reach new heights in the years ahead.
