New Delhi, 31st Jan. President Droupadi Murmu was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at the Parliament premises on Friday ahead of her address to the joint sitting of both Houses, marking the commencement of the Budget session.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla received the President, along with an official carrying the ‘Sengol’, which has been adopted as a cultural symbol by the government.
In a display of traditional grandeur, President Murmu arrived in Parliament in a six-horse-drawn ceremonial buggy, escorted by the horse-mounted Presidential Bodyguard. She was given a guard of honour in the Parliament lawns before proceeding to the Lok Sabha chamber, accompanied by Dhankhar, Modi, Birla, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Her address is expected to outline the government’s vision and priorities for the upcoming financial year.
