Samarkand, 16th September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged SCO member states to allow transit access to one another and advocated for increased connectivity to ensure resilient supply chains in the region.

PM Modi also stated in his address to the SCO summit in this historic city that India’s economy is expected to grow at 7.5 percent this year, the highest among the world’s major economies.

PM Narendra Modi stated that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) must develop reliable, resilient, and diverse supply chains in the region in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis.

PM Modi’s call for transit access comes in the midst of Pakistan’s reluctance to provide such facilities for sending goods to war-torn Afghanistan.

He stated that India supports SCO countries’ mutual trust and cooperation.

“The pandemic and the crisis in Ukraine have caused many disruptions in global supply chains, leaving the world facing unprecedented energy and food crises,” he said.

“The SCO should strive to develop reliable, resilient and diversified supply chains in our region. For this, better connectivity will be required, as well as it will also be important that we all give full rights of transit to each other,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the government is working to make India a manufacturing powerhouse.

“There is a lot of emphasis on proper technology use in our people-centric development model,” he explained.
