New Delhi, 1st July.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday addressed the 76th Annual General Meeting of Kheda District Central Cooperative (KDCC) Bank Limited, Nadiad, Gujarat, through video conferencing.

During the event, he inaugurated the bank’s new building, Sardar Patel Sahkar Bhavan, constructed at a cost of Rs 18 crore 70 lakh.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Minister of Cooperation of Gujarat and the Chairman of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED).

Addressing the program, Amit Shah highlighted the historical significance of Kheda district, the birthplace of Amul, which was established under the guidance of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

He praised Amul for setting a global example of achieving “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).

Shah noted that despite past challenges and talks of closure, Kheda District Cooperative Bank has achieved significant milestones, including the construction of a modern 36,000-square-foot building and the implementation of e-banking rules.

Shah emphasized the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who introduced the formula of “Sahkar se Samriddhi aur Samriddhi se Sampoornata” to the nation. Under this vision, the Ministry of Cooperation was established for the first time at the Centre, marking a significant step towards revitalizing the cooperative sector for the next century.

The Union Home Minister described the new Sardar Patel Sahkar Bhavan as a state-of-the-art, centrally air-conditioned, four-storey building that will serve the farmers and residents of Kheda district. He praised the bank for introducing innovative systems such as loan management, document management, and tablet banking, making it a pioneer in the cooperative banking system of Gujarat.

Since its inception in 1950, Kheda District Cooperative Bank has been a pillar of support for the region’s farmers. Today, the bank boasts a net profit of approximately Rs 31 crore, a reserve fund of Rs 258 crore, and deposits amounting to Rs 2500 crore. Despite facing uncertainties in the past, the bank secured its license in 2012 and has since grown steadily.

Amit Shah announced that the Government of India is running pilot projects under the new initiative “Cooperation Amongst Cooperatives” in Banaskantha and Panchmahal districts.

He urged those associated with cooperative institutions to open their bank accounts in District Cooperative Banks to build a robust economic structure within the cooperative sector.
He asserted that if the mantra of “Cooperation Amongst Cooperatives” succeeds, India will not need external financial assistance in the cooperative sector, as it can be self-sustaining.

The Union Minister of Cooperation called on District Cooperative Banks to contribute towards strengthening the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). He highlighted that the Government of India has undertaken 20 different initiatives to bolster PACS, and stronger PACS will, in turn, fortify the cooperative banks.

The event underscored the importance of cooperation in driving economic growth and sustainability in the agricultural and cooperative sectors.
