PM Modi to Join IMD’s 150th Foundation Day Celebrations on Jan 14

New Delhi, 13th Jan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the celebrations marking the 150th Foundation Day of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on January 14. The event will commence at 10:30 AM at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The Prime Minister will address the gathering and participate in key launches during the event.

As part of the celebrations, the Prime Minister will inaugurate ‘Mission Mausam’, a comprehensive initiative aimed at transforming India into a weather-ready and climate-smart nation. The mission focuses on the development of advanced weather surveillance technologies, next-generation radars, high-resolution atmospheric observations, satellites, and high-performance computing systems. It also aims to enhance the understanding of weather and climate dynamics, provide critical air quality data, and enable effective weather management strategies for the future.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will release the IMD Vision-2047 document, a strategic roadmap for weather resilience and climate change adaptation. The document outlines IMD’s plans for enhancing weather forecasting, improving climate management practices, and contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.

The IMD, established 150 years ago, has planned a series of events, workshops, and activities to celebrate its legacy and achievements. These initiatives will highlight IMD’s pivotal role in supporting India’s climate resilience and its contributions to weather and climate services over the decades.

This milestone celebration will showcase the IMD’s dedication to advancing meteorological sciences and its commitment to building a sustainable and climate-resilient future for India.
