New Delhi, 9th Feb. Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) landslide victory in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of losing public trust and engaging in corrupt practices. Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in Delhi after the election results were announced, Modi celebrated BJP’s return to power in the national capital after 27 years, while sharply criticizing the opposition parties.
“Congress Hits Double Hat-Trick of Zero”
Taking aim at Congress’s humiliating performance, Modi pointed out that India’s oldest political party has failed to win a single seat in Delhi for the sixth consecutive time. He called it a “double hat-trick of zero,” referring to Congress’s consistent defeats in the last six Delhi elections.
“This reflects the waning trust in the Congress among the electorate,” Modi said.
Further attacking Congress’s declining influence, he reiterated his earlier claim that the party has become a “parasite” that weakens and destroys its allies.
“The Congress does not just drown alone but takes its allies along with it,” he remarked.
Modi accused Congress of hijacking the poll planks of its allies, leading to internal rivalries within opposition coalitions.
“In Uttar Pradesh, Congress is eying the vote bank of its ally Samajwadi Party… in Tamil Nadu, it is eyeing DMK’s vote bank, while in Bihar, it is claiming to champion caste census, a poll plank of RJD,” he said.
“AAP Has Become a Symbol of Corruption”
Shifting focus to AAP’s massive electoral setback, Modi mocked the party’s downfall, saying it had betrayed the people of Delhi who once believed in its promise of clean politics.
“The party which was born from a crusade against corruption has now become a living example of corruption,” Modi declared.
Referring to multiple corruption scandals involving AAP leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Modi said:
“They promised a new level of politics but turned out to be ‘Kattar Beimaan’ (extremely dishonest).”
He further alleged that while the nation was battling the COVID-19 pandemic, AAP was busy building luxury residences for its leaders.
“When the nation was struggling with COVID-19, the AAP-da was making a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ (glass palace),” Modi said, referring to reports about Kejriwal’s official residence being renovated at exorbitant costs.
Highlighting AAP’s downfall in Delhi politics, Modi pointed out that the party’s top leadership had either lost their seats or was facing serious corruption charges.
“The party that gave itself certificates of honesty and labeled others as corrupt turned out to be the most corrupt itself. This is a betrayal of Delhi’s trust,” Modi added.
BJP’s Resounding Victory: A New Era for Delhi
With BJP winning 48 out of 70 seats, the election marks a historic turning point in Delhi politics. AAP, which had ruled for a decade, suffered a major blow, managing to retain only 22 seats—a sharp drop from its 62-seat victory in 2020. Congress, which once held unquestioned dominance in Delhi under Sheila Dikshit, failed to win even a single seat for the third consecutive election.
The election verdict has been seen as a strong endorsement of BJP’s governance model and PM Modi’s leadership. With AAP’s credibility in shambles and Congress in free fall, the BJP now has a clear path to shape Delhi’s future.
PM Modi’s speech at the BJP headquarters signified the beginning of a new chapter in Delhi’s governance. His harsh criticism of Congress and AAP not only underscored the opposition’s decline but also set the tone for BJP’s governance agenda in the capital. As BJP prepares to take charge, the focus will now be on whether it can deliver on its promises of better governance, infrastructure, and economic growth for the people of Delhi.
