New Delhi, 9th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to those who participated in the Quit India movement, marking it as a defining moment in India’s fight for independence.
In a post on X, Modi stated, “Homage to all those who took part in the Quit India Movement under Bapu’s leadership. It was truly a watershed moment in our freedom struggle.”
The Quit India movement, launched on August 8, 1942, came a day after Mahatma Gandhi’s call for the British to “quit India” and urged Indians to commit to “do or die” for their country’s independence. Despite the arrest of Gandhi and other Congress leaders, the movement gained momentum and significantly accelerated the end of British rule, especially following World War II.
