PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome in Guyana on Historic State Visit

Georgetown, 20th Nov. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Georgetown today for a historic State Visit to Guyana from November 20-21, 2024. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Guyana in 56 years.

Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi was warmly received at the airport by the President of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, along with Prime Minister of Guyana, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Anthony Phillips. A ceremonial welcome was accorded, which included a presence of more than a dozen Cabinet Ministers of the Government of Guyana.

Later, at his hotel, the Prime Minister was welcomed not only by President Ali but also by the Prime Ministers of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, and Grenada, Dickon Mitchell.

In addition, a colorful and enthusiastic reception was extended to him by the Indian community and the Indo-Guyanese diaspora, alongside several Cabinet Ministers of Guyana.

As a testament to the long-standing ties between India and Guyana, the Mayor of Georgetown also presented Prime Minister Modi with the “Key to the City of Georgetown,” symbolizing the deep friendship and strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
