Abu Dhabi, 29th June. On his way back from Munich, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi. The Prime Minister met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since the Prime Minister’s visit to Abu Dhabi in August 2019.
The visit’s main purpose was for the Prime Minister to express his personal condolences on the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan last month.
The Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and family members, including Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Dy Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, MD, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahy.
The Prime Minister also congratulated Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on his election as the UAE’s third President and as Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
Both leaders discussed various aspects of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which they have carefully nurtured in recent years. Both countries signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement on February 18 during their Virtual Summit, which went into effect on May 1. CEPA is expected to boost bilateral trade and investment even further. Bilateral trade was approximately USD 72 billion in fiscal year 2021-22. India’s third largest trade partner and second largest export destination is the UAE. UAE FDI in India has steadily increased over the last few years, and it now exceeds USD 12 billion.
During the Virtual Summit, both leaders released a Vision Statement that laid the groundwork for bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, including trade, investment, energy, including renewable energy, food security, health, defense, skills, education, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction that India and the UAE are forging closer ties in these areas, building on their close and friendly relations and long-standing people-to-people ties. India and the UAE have a strong energy partnership that is now focusing on renewable energy.
The Prime Minister thanked UAE President and Abu Dhabi Ruler Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al Nahyan for his exceptional care of the UAE’s 3.5 million Indian community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. He invited Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India as soon as possible.
