PM Modi Inaugurates New Chancery Premises of Indian High Commission in Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan, 3rd Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the new Chancery premises of the High Commission of India in Brunei. During the ceremony, he lit a ceremonial lamp and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

Prime Minister Modi also took the opportunity to interact with members of the Indian community present at the event. He praised their role as a “living bridge” between India and Brunei, acknowledging their efforts in strengthening bilateral ties.

The Indian community in Brunei has a rich history, dating back to the 1920s with the discovery of oil. Currently, around 14,000 Indians reside in Brunei, with Indian doctors and teachers making significant contributions to the nation’s healthcare and education sectors.

The new chancery complex reflects a deep sense of Indianness, skillfully integrating traditional motifs with lush greenery. The use of elegant claddings and durable Kota stones enhances its aesthetic appeal, blending classic and contemporary design elements. The structure is a tribute to India’s rich cultural heritage, offering a peaceful and welcoming environment.
