PM Modi Inaugurates Ambitious Development Projects Worth Rs 55,600 Crore in Northeast

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the Viksit Bharat Viksit North East Program in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, unveiling and dedicating multiple projects worth approximately Rs 55,600 crore.

The projects spanned various sectors, including rail, road, health, housing, education, border infrastructure, IT, power, and oil and gas, among others.

Key highlights of the Prime Minister’s address and the inaugurated projects include:

  1. Sela Tunnel Inauguration: Prime Minister Modi dedicated the strategically important Sela Tunnel to the nation, ensuring all-weather connectivity to Tawang. This infrastructure development is crucial for enhancing travel ease and connectivity in the region.
  2. UNNATI Scheme Launch: The Prime Minister launched the UNNATI scheme, valued at about Rs 10,000 crore, aimed at encouraging industrial development in the Northeast. The scheme is expected to bring new opportunities for investment and job creation in the region, focusing on startups, new technologies, homestays, and tourism-related ventures.
  3. Mission Palm Oil: PM Modi highlighted the Mission Palm Oil, a special campaign designed to make India self-reliant in the edible oil sector. The first oil mill under this mission was inaugurated during the event, with the Prime Minister expressing gratitude to farmers for their active participation in palm cultivation.
  4. Vibrant Village Programme: Emphasizing his commitment to the development of border villages, the Prime Minister launched the Vibrant Village Programme. Foundation stones were laid for road projects in approximately 125 villages, and tourism-related projects were initiated in 150 villages.
  5. Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project: The foundation stone for the Dibang Multipurpose Hydropower Project in Arunachal Pradesh was laid. This project, once completed, will be India’s highest dam, contributing significantly to the power sector.
  6. Sabroom Land Port Inauguration: The Sabroom Land Port was inaugurated, facilitating the movement of passengers and cargo between India and Bangladesh.
  7. Development Initiatives: PM Modi emphasized the comprehensive development initiatives undertaken in the Northeast, including the construction of pucca houses for 35,000 families in Arunachal Pradesh, providing piped water connections to thousands of families in Arunachal and Tripura, and implementing various infrastructure projects in education, healthcare, and tourism.

The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s focus on ensuring ease of living and ease of doing business in the region, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable tribes under the PM-JANMAN scheme, and tackling connectivity and electricity challenges to enhance overall development.

In concluding his address, PM Modi reassured the citizens that he would tirelessly work towards fulfilling basic necessities such as housing, clean drinking water, electricity, sanitation, and internet connectivity. The event concluded with a symbolic celebration of development, as the crowd illuminated their mobile phones to mark the festival of progress.
