PM Modi Holds High-Level Security Meeting with Defence Top Brass

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level security meeting with top defence and security officials in the wake of the deadliest terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan were present at the crucial meeting. The tri-service chiefs – Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh – also participated in the discussions held in New Delhi.

The security review came a day after CDS Gen Chauhan had briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on key military decisions and responses following the April 22 attack, widely considered one of the gravest terror incidents in the Valley since Pulwama in 2019.

Sources said the meeting focused on evaluating the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, counter-terrorism strategies, and immediate operational responses along the Line of Control (LoC) and other sensitive areas. It also assessed intelligence gaps and the need for enhanced coordination between the armed forces and intelligence agencies.

The Prime Minister is said to have emphasized a strong and united approach to dealing with cross-border terrorism and asked for stringent security measures to prevent future attacks.

India has already taken several diplomatic and military-level steps following the Pahalgam attack, which has drawn sharp condemnation across the political spectrum and triggered calls for tougher action against Pakistan-backed terror outfits.
