New Delhi, 6th Dec. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences for the lives lost in a tragic bus accident in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, on December 6, 2024. He also announced ex-gratia compensation from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims’ families and the injured.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Saddened by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected.”
He further said that an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 would be given to those injured in the accident.
The tragic incident occurred on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway when a sleeper bus traveling from Lucknow to Delhi overturned, resulting in the loss of eight lives and leaving over 40 passengers injured. The local administration, along with emergency teams, is currently providing support to those affected by the accident.
