New Delhi, 23rd March. On Martyr’s Day, or Shaheed Diwas 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev on March 23, Wednesday.
“Tributes to the immortal sons of Mother India, Veer Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru on Martyrs’ Day,” the PM tweeted in Hindi. His desire to die for his country will always inspire his countrymen. India, long live India!”
Shaheed Diwas is observed on March 23 to honour Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who were hanged by the British government in 1931.
In 1928, the trio was convicted of murdering deputy police superintendent JP Saunders in order to avenge the death of Lala Lajpat Rai. When they were hanged at Lahore Central Jail, Bhagat Singh was 23; Rajguru was 22, and Sukhdev was 23.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Biplobi Bharat Gallery at Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata via video conferencing at 6 p.m. on the occasion of Shaheed Diwas.
